Assisted Living Facilities
Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) - are a great option for individuals who have difficulty with their ADLs (activities of daily living) at home, but desire to be independent as much as possible. Residents at assisted living communities are encouraged to live a maintenance free and independent lifestyle, yet have access to receiving regular support for a range of ADLs including eating, bathing, dressing, laundry, housekeeping, and assistance with medications. There are many different types of ALFs – from large scale to small and intimate. A detailed and scheduled menu plan is designed and each meal is served in a dining room setting. A variety of social activities and outings are offered and usually planned on a monthly basis. These activities are not mandatory but are highly recommended so that a resident can socialize with their fellow residents and nurture a social well-being. Laundry, housekeeping, and transportation to doctor appointments and places of worship are provided as well.
Upon admission to the ALF, a personalized assessment (called an 1823 form) is completed by the clinical staff and the new resident’s primary doctor. This 1823 form will act as a medical order so the facility can render the appropriate care and establish any additional cost for specialized needs. This assessment is updated regularly to ensure the resident continues to receive the proper care based upon his/her current needs.
